Exo-Terra Plantation Soil is made from compressed coconut husk fiber from the plantations of tropical Asia. This ecological substrate is ideal for increasing humidity in the terrarium and is totally safe for frogs, salamanders and burrowing or digging animals. The substrate can also be used as an incubation medium because of its hygroscopic properties. This 100% natural substrate can even be used as a nutritional planting soil for live plants in a terrarium set-up.

The first thing you need to understand is that Koi ponds are not just some holes in the ground where you can store and keep your pets. In order to make them work well and sustain your fish, take into consideration many things as you start planning for its construction. Follow the simple rules so as to make sure that you’re not going to end up with an expensive hole filled with nothing but dead fish!
You need to have a professional build your pond, unless you already have knowledge in landscaping, fish keeping and construction. You may think that building the pond yourself will save you a lot of cash, but this kind of mentality wouldn't take you further from the case!
You see, if your pond is not built properly right from the start, what will happen is that you're going to end up spending a great deal of money on fixing the problems that may come up in the future. Also, with an improper pond set-up, you will not be able to save your fish from an inevitable demise!
Remember that a professional will always give your what you want. They may give their inputs when it comes to a necessary decision making, but in the end, they will always do what you want them to do. For this, they are blameless if ever your pond will fail due to factors such as size, location, etc. Beware of those extremely cheap quotes, as they may cut corners that can cause you problems later (these will come in differently, but there are no significant differences between them).
Remember that these ponds are by no means water troughs for animals or swimming pools, and that's the reason why much care should be taken in building and planning your pond. Although it may cost you more cash than building those typical swimming pools, the rewards that you can reap are really much greater! Make sure to keep all of the children and other pets out of your pond, because they can cause problems.
Kids who take the liberty of swimming in your pond can cause chemical imbalance and major problems, such as leaks. As for pets, it's okay to have them around your pond, but they might mess up the filtration system and chase your Koi around! This is the reason why it's best to keep them away from your pond.
Remember that like any other pets people have, other issues may come up that may need your attention. You can do these things: take some extra time to clear up those algae infections; if you're going out for a vacation, make sure that somebody with the appropriate knowledge will maintain your pond to make it properly available when you return; and also, you can always visit your veterenarian.
Once the ponds are completely made, most of them are going to be permanently in place, and this means you can't decide within 2 or 3 weeks that you want to have the construction of your pond done in the frontyard rather than in the backyard. Take your time to plan carefully each aspect of the pond, considering the size requirements and placement. Once the pond is built, you can do only a little to alter it, and this is something that you need to remember always. As this will demand a lot of work on your part, make sure that you have the necessary time to do it.
