The Texas Cichlid is a big and beautiful cichlid native to southern Texas and Northeastern Mexico. Once full-grown, this fish is gray with large silvery- blue speckles all over his body. They also have large black spots on each side. This fish is known to be quite aggressive. They get rather large and require a sizeable tank, especially if you plan to keep them with other fish. Only other large, aggressive cichlids such as Green Terrors or Jack Dempseys, should be attempted with the Texas Cichlid. A deep gravel bed and rockwork are good choices for decoration, though these cichlids are quite strong and are known to move things around in their tank. They will eat just about anything. Flake, pellet, and spirulina and other vegetable matter should be offered, with frozen meaty foods offered on occasion.
