The Warty Anglers derive their name from the blotchy pattern and lumpy texture of their skin. Their coloration is highly variable and differs with each specimen. The lures found on these Angler fish are much longer and more prominent than most other species. This species of Angler stays small and can be kept with other fish as long as they are at least the same size as the angler, preferably larger. A variety of live foods should be offered to the Angler when it is first introduced into the aquarium and then attempt to feed it frozen food once it is well established. Like other Angler species water conditions are crucial and great care should be taken in making sure they are pristine.
