The Daffodil cichlid features yellow to orange fins on a dusky gray or tan colored body, and blue-violet markings on the face. Their elongated fins have fine white tips. This fish is somewhat aggressive, particularly when protecting its fry. They are best kept in a species-only tank, or with a group of larger docile tankmates like cyprichromis. Daffodils tend to stay in a group, in the wild they are found in groups numbering in the hundreds. In the aquarium, they may be kept in pairs or in harems in larger tanks. Daffodils will eat a variety of foods such as flake, small pellet, and frozen foods. They like open areas to swim and fine substrate to spawn. Daffodils take very good care of their young and will aggressively protect fry.
